Why must it be so difficult to just get what is due? Even the Bible says a "worker is worthy of his wage" but it does seem like lately I spend more time trying to get invoices paid than I do working a case. There is not much more frustrating a thing than wasting my valuable time and my office is too small to have the resources for full time or even part time staff working on chasing deadbeat clients. The return won't cover their salary. And then there are the 'professional' clients who stiff us. Amazing it seems, I suppose, but when I find myself actually expecting an attorney to do what is right rather than sticking me with the bill, I am reminded why more and more PI's work only on money up-front. Here is one more who is going to start working that way. When the retainer runs out, so does the work until the funds are forth coming. If you are new to the PI world, this can be a warning. To those who are veterans, if you have found ways to beat the cheats, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks for listening to me vent.
